I finished my first cross stitch as a child and found myself quite impressed with what I had made. It looked great in its little frame hanging on my bedroom wall.

One morning (many years later...) I woke up with an idea...why not share my love of embroidery with the world? Thus the seed of Eggbert & Turkey was sewn (pardon the pun)! While the style of the pictures I make may have changed from that first little cross stitch, my enjoyment and satisfaction with the finished product has not. I love starting with nothing and then seeing the design slowly reveal itself. I love clean lines and the simplicity of embroidery hoops as frames. So it wasn't long before I started to wonder, what else can you frame in an embroidery hoop? I mulled this over for quite a while and accidentally stumbled upon the answer...

As an English speaker living in Germany, I find it incredibly hard to find fun and funky greeting cards in English. Sometimes you can find the odd one reading 'Happy Birthday' but on the whole they are not readily available. After searching and searching for some Christmas cards I had the epiphony 'Why don't I just make some myself?'. I couldn't find any so I would have to make some. I did. They looked great and now I share them here with you (even if you don't live in Germany!).

Looking at the stamps and inks lying around after my card making success, I began to ask 'Can I mix stamping and embroidery?'. After a fair bit of experimentation and technique perfecting, my ink stamped, embroidery hoop art was born!

So who exactly are Eggbert & Turkey? These were the names my sister and I called each other as children. I was Eggbert and she was Turkey (though she disputes this to this day!). As my love of embroidery began as a child, it seemed fitting to name my shop after something from that time.
